From the Beach to the Mountains

A Weekend Ski Trip

Every kid that lives next to the beach wants to experience the feeling of skiing down a huge mountain. That kid would be me! HI I'm Erietta , and if you're new here ;I'm a girl who has moved a lot of places the last 16 years of her life...But at this point of life a l live on the island i was raised in. A not so small greek island with a variety of beautiful beaches, Kefalonia. Don't get me wrong; we have many mountains here, you can go hiking both summer and winter, you can explore them and see many beautiful wild animals. But no... you can't ski there...That's why my friends and i decided to make a quick getaway and visit the lovely Parnassus mountain.

I was soo excited when my mum announced to me that we're going skiing this weekend! And the best part? I could get 2 of my friends to come with me. I quickly jumped off the couch and ran to make my suitcase. I called my friends and told the fantastic news. We were waiting for that day since winter started.

We didn't waste any time. We went to school, had some lessons in the afternoon and left immediately. We stopped in Athens for a day to go shopping and visit some friends. We surprised them and went out for food all together. As much as i loved being with them I had to leave. I went home and directly went to sleep. Don't forget...we had to be up at the crack of dawn to drive to Parnassus!

The alarm went off at 7:00 a.m and never in my life have i gotten off bed so fast. It took us 10 minutes to get ready and ran to the car. Better than flash i would say! the drive from Athens to THE mountain is 2,5 hours. They went by really fast as we were singing and making plans for the weekend.

When we got there we had to go get our skiis. Soooo boring. Fortunately it didn't take us long. We left the shop and had only 15 minutes drive un til we arrive. When we got there we didn't waste any time and went directly to the lift. The weather was amazing... It was sunny and not so cold. We were soooo lucky.

I was new to skiing because Iv'e been a snowboarder since my parents started taking me to the mountains from a very young age. But, this year was different. Both of my friends, Dimitris and Lambros were skiing. So i asked my self; "why not try something new?".  To my surprise it took me only one try to get used to it.

We skied for about 3-4 hours. But we got really hungry and decided to say bye to the slopes for today. But it was fine, because we would go again tomorrow! We were staying at a beautiful resort in a village near Parnassus called Agoriani. The locals encouraged us to go eat dinner in one of the best taverns is the area. We listened and visited the tavern "Nikos". When we finished dinner it was almost midnight. We went to the resort sat and talked about our fun day but had to go to sleep early again as we had to wake up at    6:00 a.m. .

The last day of our fun adventure came. We got up early ate breakfast and got in the car to go to the mountain. But you wont believe what happened! The car wouldn't start because of how cold it was. Thank god, some locals that new what to do were passing this exact time and helped us get it started! OUFFF.... I wasn't planning on wasting any time on my last day there. Around 30 minutes later we arrived to the Sale.
We weren't so lucky that day...The weather wasn't good and too many people were on the slopes. But, we didn't let that ruin. our mood. We got dressed and were ready to ski! The boys wanted to try a red slope so i went with it as i trust them a lot. See, they haven't been skiing many years but they're really good at it and they're trustworthy! When we arrived there it was sooo foggy. Im not going to lie, that stressed me a lot but seeing my friends being okay with it made me feel better. Even though it was foggy, windy and i lost them for a second i managed not to stress. This being the second day of me skiing doesn't mean i'm not familiar on how to act if something like this happened. My parents taught me from a very young age that i need to respect the ocean and the mountains for them to do the same to me.

Lambros and I tired some more red and blue slopes but Dimitri decided to try skiing down a black one. To our surprise he achieved it! Great achievement for someone that has been skiing only for some months. After that we decided to leave and go somewhere to eat before we left for Athens. This time we went to a tavern in Arachova. The food was delicious and needed after so much time of just skiing.

On the way to Athens we all slept in the car...except the poor driver in which that case was Dimitris. Time passed and we arrived on the apartment we would stay for the night in Athens so we could leave for Kefalonia the next morning.

This was probably one of the best experience i had with my friends and we will never forget that fun weekend! I wish we could do that more often...But it's fine, I'm thankful I even had the opportunity to have this weekend with some of my closest friends!
